What is an Altar Server?
An altar server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy during a Christian liturgy. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, ringing the altar bell, helps bring up the gifts, brings up the book, among other things.
What are the benefits of being an altar server?
There are also a multitude of benefits such as learning the order of Mass, a chance to meet new people and build self-esteem.
What are altar server robes called?
The long linen gown worn by Altar Servers is called the alb, meaning simply the white garment... It is a survival of the white Roman toga.
Here at St Edwards we wish to reintroduce our altar servers back to the Mass. If you have been an altar server or if you wish to become an altar server please complete this form and email to our parish office [email protected] .
